The Benedictine abbey was founded in the 11th century. It is now one of the most complete groups of monastic architecture in Normandy. Having been undergoing restoration since 2013, the convent buildings are gradually regaining the prestige of the 17th and 18th centuries. The restoration is re-establishing the classical harmony of the façades and the original inner volumes. The old refectory of the Maurist monks now houses an auditorium where the monumental fireplace, exposed beams and naïve paintings have been preserved (exceptionally open to the public). On the tour you can learn about the history of the monument and the challenge of restoration, which involves respecting the traces of the past while adapting to the modern world.
