PONTECOULANT

Domaine de Pontécoulant

Chateaux

A stone's throw from Condé-sur-Noireau, nestling in the heart of the Druance valley, the Castle of Pontécoulant is reminiscent of the life of the noble Norman family, the Le Doulcet de Pontécoulant, resident here since the 14th Century. Overlooking the river and the copse, the English-style gardens, dating from the reign of Louis XVI, are the ideal site for a romantic stroll in the shade of the trees that adorn its meandering pathways.

Situated in the Druance Valley this estate exhibits all the distinctive hallmarks of the aristocracy: the castle, the hunting lodge and gardener’s lodge, the dovecot, the landscaped garden and the farm and its woods and land. The Doulcet de Pontécoulant family was established here from the 14th century and a castle was built in the 16th century on the site of a stronghold which guarded the narrow valley. The castle was subsequently enlarged and improved in the 18th century. The castle and its interior furnishings are open to visit as well as the parkland designed in the English style. ‘La Roche aux Renards’ is the starting point for many woodland walks and hikes on and around the state. Pass ‘Espace Musée Léandre at Condé sur Noireau and Domaine de Pontécoulant’.
