Botanic Garden

Parks and gardens

This wooded 8 ha (19 acre) park dates from 1840, and is laid out both in French and English style. Officially a Jardin Botanique of France and French-speaking countries, it offers the opportunity to discover a range of botanical species and horticultural varieties in its many collections: rock garden, temperate zone glasshouse, tropical glasshouses, collections of iris, dahlia, utilitarian plants. There is also a rose garden, part of which is devoted to roses with Norman varieties. Groups may also visit the national fuchsia collection and the orchard of heritage varieties named in honour of the discoverer of a local variety of pear, the Passe-Crassane. As an ornamental park, it is much appreciated by the public for its flowers all year round and its very fine trees.
