Automata Museum

Museums-Crafts and industries

The Museum traces the history of the famous animated Parisian Department store window scenes popular between 1920 and 1960. The Museum features 10 large animated original window scenes; the streets of Periscope alive through over 300 automata to come alive.
Go back to the world of the sophisticated Paris shoppers of the first half of the twentieth century.
From the 1920s to the 1950s the large department stores in Paris’ grands boulevards all had animated window displays for Christmas. They were hugely popular, drawing crowds to look, marvel … and shop.
The museum has a unique collection of about 300 automata from these fantastic window displays, which portrayed Paris life including famous people of the times such as M Eiffel whose famous tower rises above Paris.
