Double Inconstancy (or almost)

"The elegant and graceful story of a crime"
Jean Anouilh
Harlequin and Sylvia love each other. But it could not be that easy! The Prince also likes Sylvia. To conquer her, he decides to destroy the love of these two young people and uses his power to achieve his ends. Jean-Michel Rabeux, a lively and uncompromising director, seizes this piece, among the most cruel of Marivaux. Camouflaged under the spell of elegance and comedy, a fierce social drama is being built: the learned maneuvers of the Prince trample the lives of the two villagers without complex, sacrificing their feelings on the altar of selfishness. Love serves here as a pretender for business, concealment and lies.
Jean-Michel Rabeux continues, with this cruel little carnival, his exploration of the mechanisms of social domination and finds in Marivaux the echoes of our time. On a plateau surrounded by tall columns in ruins, the comedy of feelings is exposed, malice advances masked and pain respects the conventions in all elegance.
