500th Anniversary of Le Havre

From 27 May to 5 november 2017, the Unesco-listed City of Le Havre and its port will commemorate their 500th anniversary with a major artistic event including 30 exciting projects: contemporary works of art, exceptional exhibitions and many more celebrations…


500 years after King Francis I of France ordered the establishment of a fortified port and signed the charter founding the city, come and join the festivities of Summer 2017 in Le Havre.

Major exhibitions

- 27 May - 20 August: retrospective of 80 works by Pierre et Gilles, famous for their atypical portraits mixing photography and painting.

- 9 September - 8 October: Claude Monet's Impression, Sunrise returns to Le Havre, birthplace of Impressionism, where it was painted in 1872, for a special exhibition with a selection of paintings by Eugène Boudin, Raoul Dufy, William Turner, Félix Valloton...

> Both exhibitions will be held at the MuMa, André Malraux Museum of Modern Art.

- 27 May - 8 October: exhibition on the maritime history of the city. > French Lines Transantlantic Passenger Terminal

Artistic festivities

- 27 May: opening ceremony with a street parade linking the upper parts of the city to the beach with Art Point M.

- 6 - 9 July: Royal de Luxe's giants will take over the streets of the city.

- 8 October: closing ceremony starting with a fireworks display at sunrise.
