Falaises des Vaches Noires (Black Cows Cliffs) - in Houlgate

At the foot of the cliffs, the shape of the seaweed-covered rocks is reminiscent of the silhouette of cows. Hence the original name given to these cliffs. The site has been listed by the French Ministry for the Environment and offers a rich geological and archaeological heritage. At low tide, the shore below the cliffs is accessible to walkers from the beach at Houlgate and as far as Villers sur Mer (walk approximately 2 hours).
Throughout all school holiday periods, and on extra dates in the summer subject to tides, the Géo-Paléo-Archéologique association in Houlgate organises discovery tours of the Black Cow Cliffs.
